Fulham complete the signing of former Arsenal apprentice

Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham have completed the signing of former Arsenal apprentice Rui Fonte from Portuguese club Braga according to Get West London.

The 27-year-old Portuguese striker is thought to have been tracked by The Whites for several months after impressing in his homeland last season.

It has now been reported that Fulham have finally got their man with Fonte moving to Craven Cottage on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The West Londoners will also have the option to extend the player’s contract by a further year should he impress during his time in the Sky Bet Championship.

Fonte graduated from the Arsenal academy in 2008 but made just one first team appearance for The Gunners in a League Cup tie against Wigan Athletic later that year. The player was loaned out to Crystal Palace for a short spell before moving to Sporting Lisbon.

The striker failed to make an impact at the top level of the Portuguese game before joining Spanish club Espanyol on a permanent basis after impressing on loan. Fonte finally got regular first team experience under his belt at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat and his good performances saw the player earn a move to Benfica.

Fonte won the Portuguese League Cup during his time with Benfica while he has since spent time with Belenenses and Braga before making his long awaited return to English football with Fulham.
