Clucas, Premier League side readying massive bid for Hull’s Clucas – bigger than Burnley bid “by miles”

Premier League side readying massive bid for Hull’s Clucas – bigger than Burnley bid “by miles”

A relegated side from the Premier League to the Sky Bet Championship is always going to be like a staggering wildebeest for vultures when it comes to their best players. Hull City know this scenario very well.

Already Liverpool have swooped in and taken defender Andy Robertson to Anfield for an initial fee of £8 million – with incentives and add-ons raising that fee should criteria be met. They have also seen Burnley interest in Sam Clucas, the Tigers turning down a £10 million bid for him from the Clarets.

However, whilst that figure was brushed off by a Hull side buoyed with the Premier League’s so-called ‘parachute payments’, another Premier League side is said ready to step in and really test the steel of the East Yorkshire side’s resolve.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon, on his personal Twitter feed, has posted (tweet – below) that Swansea are definitely interested in gaining Clucas’ signature. Of course, not only are Swansea backed by the multi-millions of Sky Sports money that Premier League teams gain access to, but they also have the ‘small’ matter of £40 million in their pockets after selling Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton.

Clucas, let go by recent Premier League winners Leicester City in early March 2009 drifted into non-league action with Nettleham, before joining first Lincoln City in July 2009, then later moving on to the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain a year later.

A move to Hereford, via a free transfer, came Clucas’ way in November 2001 and two years later, at the beginning on July 2013 Mansfield Town snapped him up on a free transfer. A further move to Chesterfield, for around £110,000, came in 2014 before current club Hull City brought him to the KCOM at the end of July 2015 for the sum of £1.6 million.

Since arriving at Hull City in 2015, midfielder Clucas has made a total of 96 appearances for the Tigers, scoring nine times and providing tem assists. His consistent displays have obviously earned him a reputation and it is this potential that will seemingly be tested by Swansea City and their bid that is bigger than the £10 million tendered by Burnley “by a mile.”
