New Sunderland signing Lewis Grabban scored a brace as well as an own goal against his former club Norwich, as the North East club defeat ‘The Canaries’ 3-1, in an impressive away win.
Promotion contenders Norwich City, who earned an impressive 1-1 draw away at Craven Cottage on the opening day, had a tough test on Sunday afternoon, as recently relegated Sunderland travelled to Carrow Road.
Simon Grayson’s side also earned an impressive draw on the opening day, at home to Derby County, and it was ‘The Black Cats’ who struck first, as new man Lewis Grabban latched on to a flick on from another former Canary James Vaughan, and smashed it beyond Norwich keeper Angus Gunn.
It was a close affair during the first 45, with both teams having chances, but it was Simon Grayson’s men who had a 1-0 lead going into the break.
The second half started in a similar way to the first, with the game being closely contested, before another new signing, Aiden McGeady scored a screamer on the hour mark and doubled Sunderland’s lead.
After the former Everton man’s goal, Norwich made some attacking changes, as Josh Murphy and Nelson Oliveira were introduced to the game, but it was to no avail, as Grabban nodded home a third, to almost certainly wrap up all three points.
Norwich did get a consolation goal, and Grabban was involved again, as he put through his own net, but it was the last of the action, as the game ended 3-1.
Sunderland’s next game is another tough test, away at Sheffield Wednesday, on Wednesday night, and they will look to build on Sunday’s result.
Norwich also have a tough test, at home to QPR, but will be looking to bounce back and secure the three points after Sunday’s disappointing defeat.
