West Bromwich Albion are set to join the race to sign Leeds United’s Chris Wood according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.
Wood was one of the best players in the Sky Bet Championship last season as he scored a stunning 30 goals for the club, helping Leeds to their best finish in years. He would also get plenty of respect from the fans who voted him into 2nd place in our Best of the EFL list. But this sort of form has been attracting attention from the Premier League who want the hotshot for themselves.
It was reported earlier in the week that Burnley had made an offer worth £12m to try and sign Wood, with Leeds rejecting that as they are keen to make sure their star man stays at Elland Road. But now the West Yorkshire club are going to have an even tougher fight to make sure the New Zealand international stays there as West Brom are the latest team to become interested in him as this report suggests they have joined the race to sign him. Brighton and Hove Albion are also said to be interested.
Making a move to sign for Wood for what would have to be above £12m would be a bit embarrassing for West Brom though. They have had him on the books before, signing him from New Zealand club Hamilton Wanderers when he was a 17-year-old. However despite him showing a lot of talent during his time in their youth system, they would sell him for £1m to Leicester City in 203. Now they are going to have to spend a lot more money to bring him back to the club.
