Barnsley are set to make a surprise move to sign Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner on loan according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.
The Tykes have had a very poor start to the season, slipping to losses to Bristol City and Ipswich Town in their first couple of games of the season. They were only just able to beat Sky Bet League Two side Morecambe as well in the First Round of the Carabao Cup. This bout of poor form seems to have sent alarm bells ringing at Oakwell as the club are worried about dropping back into Sky Bet League One and the club will need to strengthen to make sure they avoid that fate.
And it seems like the ideal option to help improve their team is set to leave his current club. Aston Villa were willing to give Gary Gardner a chance in their first team this season but even though they have had their own mixed start to the season, they seem happy to once again send the midfielder out on loan again. And Barnsley are surprise contenders to sign him and could make a move to bring him in on a temporary deal in the next few days.
Last year Gardner ended up going on loan to Nottingham Forest for the second half of the season, impressing during his time there and helping the club to narrowly avoid relegation. But this time it appears he will be heading to South Yorkshire instead should Barnsley be successful in their attempt to sign him.
