Sunderland are interested in signing Lincoln City’s Sean Raggett according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.
The Black Cats may already be underway in their attempt to get promoted back to the Premier League but they are still looking to strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window. One area they want to improve is the defence, especially as they still expect to lose Lamine Kone at some point this month. But instead of just looking at the highly rated players in their own division, they have started to look at players impressing further down the ladder.
This has led to them being interested in signing Raggett and they could make a move for him very soon. The 23-year-old defender only signed for current club Lincoln last season but was a star player after finally getting promoted from the Vanarama National. Raggett himself was able to grab some headlines when he scored the winner against Burnley in the FA Cup which sent the Imps into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, the first time a non-league club had done that 103 years.
But while Lincoln have had a decent return to the EFL, picking up two draws in their first couple of matches back at this level, Raggett may end up wanting to test himself at a higher level. This is his first time in the EFL and a chance to play for a team that will be looking to get promoted to the Premier League may just be too much to turn down.
