Nottingham Forest were able to beat Brentford in a seven goal thriller that was sure to thrill any neutrals present at Griffin Park.

Brentford were forced to play 120 minutes in midweek when AFC Wimbledon forced them to go to extra time, though the Bees would eventually win 3-1. Nottingham Forest however did not need extra time to beat Shrewsbury Town 2-1.

Most of the first half happened without incident but that all changed after Brentford got the opening goal. A short corner routine was able to bamboozle the Forest defence, allowing Florian Jozefoon to float in a great cross and John Egan was in the box to head in and give the Bees the lead.

This however seemed to spark Forest into life as they hit high gear just before the end of the first half. Andreas Bouchalakis was hoping to impress on his debut for Forest and he sure did that when he volleyed it into the bottom corner. And if that didn’t make the fans who came all the way down from East Midlands happy, they soon took the lead when Daryl Murphy was the quickest to respond when Tandayi Darikwa hit the post with his own shot.

In the second half, Bouchalakis extended Forest’s lead and was starting to show why he may be a great signing for the club. His goal was something special as he fired the ball into the top corner, leaving Ryan Bentley in the Brentford goal helpless to do anything.

And just like in the first half, the second half would end with a bank. Andreas Bjelland got one back for Brentford by heading in from a corner but Forest were able to restore their two goal advantage when Kieran Dowell’s effort on goal was deflected into the net. It would be a nervy end to the game when Neil Maupay got one for Brentford when he hit the ball low into the net, but Forest were able to hold on and get the win.

The loss means Brentford are now 22nd in the Sky Bet Championship and will next face Bristol City. Nottingham Forest moved up to 3rd and they will be taking on Barnsley next time.
