Aston Villa are to join Wolves in the race to sign Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Rhodes initially signed for the Owls on loan in the January transfer window before making that deal permanent this summer with what is believed to be a club record fee. But while he joined the club amid much excitement, many believe that he has under performed. He only scored three goals last season, far less than what many expected from a striker who has done so well for the likes of Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers in the past.
And while he did start in Saturday’s match against Preston North End, another game he failed to get on the score sheet, some reports have started linking him with a move away from Hillsborough. Wolves were rumoured to be making a move for him last weekend and now the latest reports are suggesting that Aston Villa are going to try and sign him. While they already have Jonathan Kodjia, Villa would love to add another top quality striker to their line-up and Rhodes would be exactly that.
The question would be if Wednesday are willing to give up on a massive investment so quickly. They have many strikers on the books already with Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri all jostling for places and some may think that Wednesday would sell Rhodes thanks to all the options they already have. But considering that they are yet to see the best of him, they may hold onto him for a bit longer.
