Sheffield United faced League One side Walsall in the first round of the Carabao Cup. Chris Wilder’s side won 3-2 after being 1-0 down- thanks to an own goal from Roberts, a goal from Nathan Thomas and a goal from Daniel Lafferty.

Walsall took the lead after Oztumer teed up Bakayoko who slotted home to put the Saddlers in front. But with fifteen minutes left, Ched Evans’s strike cannoned of Roberts to make it 1-1. It got better for the Blades as only five minutes later Ched Evans squared the ball for Nathan Thomas who scored to put United 2-1 up. Sheffield United’s Championship quality started to show when Daniel Lafferty’s shot from the edge of the box found the roof of the net to give the Blades a two-goal cushion. But in the 91st minute, Walsall were awarded a penalty, and Oztumer made no mistake from twelve yards to set up a nervy last few minutes for Sheffield United.
