Northampton Town manager Justin Edinburgh is looking forward to Saturday’s visit of Fleetwood Town, their first home match of the campaign.
The Cobblers’ boss stated on ntfc.co.uk that:
“It’s a big game and we want to get off the mark. We feel it’s coming and I’ve got every confidence in the players to deliver.”
“A lot of these players came in at different times and it will take a little bit of time but I’m sure that there are lots of good performances and good results to come from this group.”
Northampton started their season with a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town in League One, before losing by the same scoreline at Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.
Edinburgh is therefore eager to turn his side’s fortunes around in Northampton’s Sixfields opener at the weekend. The former Gillingham boss said:
“We need to continue the good work from Tuesday and we want to get our first goals and points on the board.”
Their opponents on Saturday are Uwe Rosler’s Fleetwood Town, losing play-off semi-finalists last campaign. Unlike Northampton, the Trawlermen started the season with a victory, as they overcame Rotherham United 2-0. However, they were less impressive in midweek, falling to a 2-1 home defeat against League Two Carlisle United in the EFL Cup, after extra-time. They will, therefore, be looking to get back to winning ways against Northampton.
Edinburgh acknowledges that Fleetwood will be a tough side to play against:
“Fleetwood had an excellent season last year and I’m sure they will be looking to continue this campaign, Uwe Rosler is a big character and we look forward to testing ourselves against a team who will consider themselves one of the favourites for promotion.”
