After what was a torturous wait for all football fans the 17/18 season finally commenced last weekend, with all three divisions of the Football League playing there opening fixtures.
But there’s no rest for the Football League sides, as they are in action again tonight and tomorrow in the Carabao/EFL Cup.
There are some interesting ties across the first round, and one of those is tonight’s clash between Championship side Nottingham Forest and League One outfit Shrewsbury Town.
Forest enjoyed a good pre season, beating the likes of Notts County, Mansfield and Girona as well as managing a 1-1 draw with Premier League side Burnley, which brought confidence to the club and its fans.
‘The Reds’ have also had a fairly busy transfer window, signing a total of seven players, including Tendayi Darikwa, Barrie McKay and Championship goal scoring machine Daryl Murphy.
Forest started the season as they mean to go on, beating newly promoted Millwall 1-0, with new man McKay getting the games only goal, and they will look to push on from the three points and try to challenge for promotion this season, and will look to prove their class by beating Shrewsbury tonight.
‘The Shrews’ also enjoyed a successful pre season, beating the likes of Sky Bet Championship sides Burton, Cardiff City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Aston Villa.
Similarly to Forest Shrewsbury also started their campaign off to a winning start, beating Northampton 1-0 at the New Meadow.
The Shropshire based club are on of the favourites to be relegated from League One this season, but will be looking to defy the odds by staying in the league, and will also be looking for a shock victory at the City Ground tonight.
