Sheffield United make new offer for Blackburn Rovers defender

Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder has told Sky Sports that they have made another offer to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Darragh Lenihan.

The Blades have been interested in signing the 23-year-old defender for a while and have already had several bids rejected for him as Blackburn look to keep their squad together following their relegation from the Sky Bet Championship. They seem to be serious as well, with Blackburn rejecting United’s latest offer which was reported to be worth £1.25m.

And staying true to this weekend’s words where Wilder said he would still be looking to sign new players despite their opening day win over Brentford, he has confirmed that they have made another bid to sign Lenihan. The Blades want to strengthen their squad even further to make sure they aren’t involved in a relegation battle and believe that not only will be great this season, but also grow as a player considering his young age.

Confirming this report, Wilder said: “There is a bid left in with them but there’s other players on our radar,”

“We notified them and it was their right to either accept or decline the bid, and I don’t get precious about other people coming in for our players.”

“We come through the front door and we do it the right way, and it’s the same about our players. We won’t talk about derisory bids or whatever.”

“It’s business and I think everybody understands that. I think sometimes you just get a little bit precious about it all.”
