Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has told the club website that the Carabao Cup will be important for them this season.
The Owls had a very disappointing start to the season as they slipped to a 1-0 loss against Preston North End and will now be looking to use the Carabao Cup to bounce back as they don’t want their promotion bid to get off track just as the season begins. On paper, a match against Sky Bet League Two side Chesterfield should be an easy win for Wednesday. However last year Wednesday were dumped out of this competition by Cambridge United, meaning they can’t take anything for granted.
And Carvalhal gets that as he has revealed he will be fielding a strong side for tomorrow night’s match even if it will have a few different faces. He has insisted that they will be taking this competition very seriously as they look to prevent another upset.
He said: “We care about this game a lot, we will focus the players and let’s see what will happen tomorrow.”
“We will put a strong team to play absolutely sure, it will be a strong team from Sheffield Wednesday.”
“We will go with our first team and take the game very seriously.”
“All the time when we were abroad, England was the country where anything can happen, especially in the cup.”
“So the teams not in the level of another can do something and that is something fantastic. We talked about that often when we were abroad.”
“There are no easy games in this country. Surprises appear in England a lot and we must focus and we must do our work.”
