PNE reject Birmingham City’s second transfer bid for striker

Preston North End are believed to have rejected a second transfer bid from Sky Bet Championship rivals Birmingham City for striker Jordan Hugill according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 25-year-old Middlesbrough born frontman bagged 13 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for The Lilywhites last season, the best goal tally of the player’s career so far.

With Birmingham City currently short of attacking options, it has been reported that Blues manager Harry Redknapp is looking to sign Hugill. The club are thought to have failed with an initial £2.5 million transfer offer for the player and a second offer in the region of £3 million is now also said to have been rejected.

Hugill started his career in non-league football playing for the likes of Seaham Red Star, Consett and Whitby Town before joining Port Vale in summer 2013. After a short stint on loan at National League club Gateshead, Hugill returned to Port Vale to make 24 appearances in which he scored five goals. The striker won Vale’s Young Player of the Year award in his first season in professional football.

The frontman joined current club Preston North End in summer 2014 and Hugill has gone on to score 20 goals in 85 appearances for the Lancashire club.

Preston North End are believed to have already rejected a £1.5 million transfer offer for Hugill from Ipswich Town in January and the club now look set to fend off the ongoing interest from Birmingham City.
