A brace from Bobby Reid helped Bristol City get a comfortable 3-1 win over Barnsley today.
Last year the Robins really disappointed and came close to being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship while their opponents Barnsley surprised everyone by safely finishing in mid-table, though the season ended with them being on a poor run of form.
But this year it appears that Bristol City will be the team not involved in a relegation battle as they raced to a comfortable win in the season opener against Barnsley. Bobby Reid would be the star of the show as he got two goals though the first one was handed to him on a plate. Record signing Famara Diedhiou, making his debut today, had his initial shot saved by Adam Davies but Reid was there to tap in the follow up.
If Diedhiou was disappointed that he didn’t get the goal himself, he would soon have one for himself. Just ten minutes after the opener, he headed in at the far post after a great cross from Reid. Considering that Diedhiou is meant to be the replacement for star player Tammy Abraham, he is certainly showing that he is capable of doing that with his performance today.
Bristol City would cap off their scoring for the day just five minutes later when Reid got his second of the day. Similar to the first time, Joe Bryan had his initial shot saved by Davies but Reid was there to score the rebound. Barnsley would be unable to bounce back from this.
The Tykes did however get one back when Ryan Hedges scored a scrappy goal towards the end of the match, though it obviously wasn’t enough to stop Bristol City from winning the game.
This win put Bristol City at the top of the Sky Bet Championship while Barnsley are now 23rd.
