French giants linked with Aston Villa full-back

French giants Marseille are understood to weighing up a bid for Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 23-year-old Toulon born defender made 36 appearances in all competitions for Villa last season however the club could cash in on the player to reduce their wage bill.

Amavi was close a sealing an £8 million move to Sevilla last month only to see the transfer fall through at the last minute and it has now been reported that French club Marseille could swoop for the player. The Olympians are thought to have been interested in Amavi back in January although no transfer bid was ever submitted but the club could follow their interest up in the current transfer window.

Marseille are not the only club from Ligue 1 to be watching Amavi. It is also believed that AS Monaco are tracking the player.

Amavi started his career in his homeland with Nice where he successfully made the step up to the first team from the club’s academy system. The player made 60 first team appearances during his time at the Allianz Riviera, scoring four goals.

The defender signed for Aston Villa for a undisclosed fee in summer 2015 and despite missing most of his first season at the club with an ACL injury, Amavi was a regular for the club last term.
