England Under-20 international loaned to Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers have signed Middlesbrough midfielder Harry Chapman on a season-long loan. He has become Tony Mowbray’s eighth signing of the summer.

Chapman signed his first professional contract with Boro in 2015. He made the eight assists in the UEFA Youth League in the 2015-16 campaign, which was the most assists in the competition. On the 6 February 2016, the Hartlepool-born midfielder went out on loan to Barnsley for the remainder of the campaign. He helped the Tykes gain promotion to the Championship. Chapman was on loan with Sheffield United last season. The midfielder played fourteen games as the Blades won League One. This was his second promotion in two seasons. Chapman has featured for Boro’s first-team squad in pre-season.

New signing Chapman said “It’s a massive club”

“They shouldn’t be in this league, they need to get back to where they belong, up the top. I’m here to help out and I can’t wait to get started.

He continued “It would be unbelievable if I can do three out of three (promotions). With the squad we’ve got here I don’t see why we can’t.”

Chapman also said that the manager was the biggest factor in him moving to Ewood Park. He said “When I was in the Academy at Middlesbrough he was obviously there. I’ve talked to the lads who are still there and they’ve all persuaded me, saying he’s really good, he’ll get the best out of you and that’s what I need.

“He has five key points – we press the ball when we lose it high, we counter-attack, we stop counter-attacks, we control the game and we keep the ball on the floor – which is all what I enjoy football-wise. Therefore, it was good to hear.”

Blackburn kick-off their campaign tomorrow away at Southend. Rovers will be looking for a return to the Championship after relegation last season.
