Bristol Rovers have signed Stoke duo Dominic Telford and Ryan Sweeney on season-long loans. The latter was on loan with The Gas last season.

Sweeney started his career with AFC Wimbledon. He made 13 appearances for the Dons before Stoke picked him up for a fee in the region of £250,000. He played sixteen times for Rovers last season as they finished tenth in League One. President Club members voted Sweeney Young Player of the Year last season.

Telford started his career with Blackpool. He made fifteen appearances in the 2014-15 season and scored a single goal as Blackpool were relegated to League One. He signed for the Potters in 2015 alongside Blackpool team-mate Mark Waddington.

Sweeney said this about his return “I am really pleased to be coming back to Bristol Rovers. I really enjoyed my time at the club last season.

He continued “I know that there were other clubs interested in taking me on loan but once I knew that Rovers were interested there was only one club I wanted to join.”

Fellow Potters loanee Telford said “I am delighted to be joining Rovers for the season. Ryan has told me all about the club and everything he said was positive.

“I have been playing U-23 football for Stoke but I am now looking forward to playing in League One with Rovers and can’t wait to get started.”

While Rovers manager Darrell Clarke said “I am delighted that Ryan and Dominic have agreed to join us for the season. Ryan has been one of my main targets over the summer and although we have had to wait to get him here, our patience has paid off.

“I am looking forward to working with both of them as the season progresses and would like to thank Mark Cartwright and Mark Hughes at Stoke for allowing Ryan and Dominic to join us.”

Rovers will be looking to push on this season after a decent season in League One last year. They kick-off their campaign tomorrow away at Charlton where the duo could feature.
