Nottingham Forest boss determined to avoid relegation scrap again

Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton says that last season’s near relegation should act as motivation for the Reds.

Forest avoided relegation to Sky Bet League One on goal difference following a 3-0 win over Ipswich Town and Warburton is keen for this season to be one of different emotions.

Having been appointed in March, Warburton has been backed by new owner Evangelos Marinakis, with funds for six new arrivals being provided. Compared to last season, when the Reds used 42 different players under three managers, shows how much the East Midlands side have moved since Fawaz Al Hasawi controlled the club.

“That sensation from the last game of the season, we must never feel again.” he said.

“I have said that before and will say it again – we must always use that feeling as a motivating force to move the club forward.”

Warburton has been active in the transfer window, bringing Jason Cummings, Barrie McKay, Daryl Murphy, Tendayi Darikwa, Andreas Bouchalakis and Kieran Dowell to the City Ground.

“We are in a good position and comfortable with the squad,” he added.

“Their attitude is outstanding and they are hungry for success. They know how close they came to relegation last season.

“I have absolute belief in the players in their desire and quality. Let’s see how we go but we are looking forward to a strong season.

“It’s a fantastic division with huge clubs, but Forest are a huge club as well and we know where we need to get the club back to.”

Forest begin their Championship campaign at home to Millwall this evening.
