Oxford United sign Brazilian left-back

Oxford have signed experienced left-back Ricardinho on a one-year deal with the option for a further year.

The 32-year-old started his career with Brazilian side Coritiba. He made 120 appearances for the club before going on loan to Atlético Mineiro where he made four appearances. Ricardo Ferreira da Silva Kubitski – who is known as Ricardinho- made a further 37 appearances for Coritiba.

In 2009 the left-back signed for Swedish side Malmö FF who were managed by current Oxford boss Pep Clotet. He played in the Champions League with Malmö. Ricardinho played 159 times for the club before signing for Azerbaijan side Gabala in 2015 after he stated that he would renew his contract with Malmö FF. He played 69 times for Gabala.

Oxford gaffer Pep Clotet said this about Ricardinho “He is someone I worked with before. He brings a lot of experience, is naturally left-sided, he is very consistent and a very good professional who we believe will do well for Oxford United.“

While Ricardo said, “I enjoyed working with Pep before. Since then he has worked at some fantastic clubs and with some great people so I can’t wait to start training with him again.

“He spoke with passion about what this club is all about. He also spoke about what they hope to achieve. To be honest I am really looking forward to playing a part in that.”

Oxford will be looking to push on from last season, where they finished 8th in League One. With a new manager and with a number of new players can Oxford achieve something special this season?
