Villa full-back completes move to Turkish Super Lig

Out of favour Aston Villa left-back Aly Cissokho has joined Turkish Super Lig new boys Yeni Malatyaspor for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £1.3 million according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 29-year-old French defender fell out of favour at Villa Park last season and made just 12 appearances for the club while he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Greek club Olympiacos.

With the player deemed to be surplus to requirements at Villa Park, it has been reported that Cissokho has joined unfashionable Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor in a deal which has seen the defender become the club’s record signing.

Yeni Malatyaspor were formed just 31 years ago and have worked their way up the Turkish footballing pyramid, winning promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history last season. Cissokho will spend the next two years at the Malatya Inonu Stadium as the club look to build stability in the Turkish Super Lig.

The defender joined Aston Villa from Valencia in a deal believed to be in the region of £3 million three years ago. Cissokho made 58 appearances for Villa while he was also loaned to Porto. The player had a loan spell at Liverpool prior to his move to Villa Park while he has played in France, Portugal and Spain earlier in his career.
