Sunderland ready to thrash out deal for Villa striker

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson is ready to thrash out a deal with Sky Bet Championship rivals Aston Villa to take striker Ross McCormack on a season-long loan according to the Sunderland Echo.

The 30-year-old Glasgow born hotshot has been frozen out of the Villa side by manager Steve Bruce following a dispute over missing a club training session.

A number of Sky Bet Championship clubs have been linked with making moves for the striker with Sunderland thought to be one of those sides interested in the player. It is now thought that Black Cats boss Grayson is confident of landing McCormack on a season-long loan deal providing that the club can come to an agreement with Villa over the payment of the player’s wages.

McCormack has netted just three goals in 22 appearances for Villa since joining the club from Fulham last summer in a reported £12 million deal. Prior to his time at Villa Park, the striker’s goalscoring record has been good with McCormack netting 30 goals in 88 matches for Cardiff City, 59 goals in 158 appearances for Leeds United and 42 goals in a century of outings for Fulham.

Sunderland are not expecting to complete a deal before Friday’s season-opener against Derby County at The Stadium of Light however they are said to be hopeful of completing the move within the next seven days.
