Preston North End have signed right-sided defender Darnell Fisher from Rotherham United, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.

The Millers were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship last season and have now lost 23-year-old right-back to Preston North End.

Preston had been without a Manager following Simon Grayson’s appointment at Sunderland, however Alex Neil has made four signings since becoming the Lilywhites’ Manager three weeks ago – making Fisher his fifth capture of the summer.

The Berskhire-born defender began his career in Scotland with giants Celtic, making his first-team debut in 2013, before spending the 2015-16 season on-loan with St Johnstone. Last summer the 23-year-old returned to England, making 34 appearances as the South Yorkshire side were relegated from England’s second-tier.

Speaking after making Fisher his fifth signing of the summer, Neil spoke of his confidence that his latest addition would help Preston challenge at the top end of the League table.

“He’s perfect in the fact that he wants to try and find his way in his career. “He is a determined lad; he has come through Celtic’s ranks, so he’s used to high standards and winning games and expecting to be challenging at the top end of the table.

“He has had that experience there, which I think will certainly help him. “I think we needed a few more bodies in defensive areas and I think Darnell will fit in perfectly for us. I think it’s a great bit of business.”
