Sheffield United complete signing of Oxford United midfielder

Sheffield United have signed John Lundstram from Oxford United for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

The Blades have been looking to sign a new central midfielder since they got promoted from Sky Bet League One but had been frustrated in their attempts to sign Ryan Leonard from Southend United. With that move being so slow in happening, United decided to move onto to another target and concentrated on trying to sign Lundstram from Oxford.

And that has worked out well for United as they have now completed a deal to sign Lundstram with the 23-year-old midfielder signing a three-year contract at Bramall Lane. Now he will get the chance to play in the Sky Bet Championship as the South Yorkshire club look to establish themselves back in the division after six years out of the division. Having been a great player for Oxford since signing for them in 2015, the club will be confident that he can make the step up to the second tier.

After completing his move to Sheffield United, Lundstram said: “The magnitude of the club was a big pull and I’ve played against Chris Wilder teams in the past and the style of play suits me and what I’m about.”

“It’s took a bit longer than ideal, but I’m delighted it’s over the line now. It’s shame I couldn’t play against Stoke but the minutes will come.”

“I’m fit and ready to go when selected, I’ve been in Sheffield for a couple of days and settled in quickly with the lads, who are a great bunch.”
