Poyet could be on his way to the Hammers

Diego Poyet is reportedly to undergo a medical at West Ham United SkySports understands.

The 19 year old has apparently turned down a new deal at current club Charlton Athletic and will travel to Upton Park to undergo his medical. Poyet, the son of Sunderland manager Gus, made his debut for the Addicks during January and finished last season as the clubs player of the season. The proposed deal to bring Poyet to Upton Park comes 24 hours after the signing of Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich Town.

talkSPORT reports that the likes of Borusia Dortmund were tracking the young midfielder’s progress as well as wealthy Monaco.

The England youth player is eligible to play internationally for Spain (his country of birth), England (where he was raised) or Uruguay (his parent’s are Uruguayan).

Poyet however will be unavailable to move for free and Charlton will be entitled to compensation if a move does go through to money due to the ‘Bosman ruling’. This is where a player under 23 when leaving to a new club on a contract expiry deal results in the former club being paid compensation fees by the new club of the player.
