Leeds United chasing exciting Spanish playmaker Villa – three-way deal

Nothing is ever simple at Leeds United, any Whites fan will tell you that. This extends to most aspects of the club, and is summed up by the currently rumoured interest in talented young Spaniard Toni Villa.

Playmaker Villa, came through the youth system at Valladolid, moving into their ‘B’ side at the beginning of July 2014. Since then he moved on two years later, heading to CD Leonesa in early August 2016 on a free transfer.

A year later, at the start of July this year, and Villa was on the move again – heading back to Real Valladolid on a transfer said to be around €50,000. That’s where it all starts to get a little tangled according to Spanish source Pujela Fichajes.

They say, quoting Cadena SER journalist Jose Luis Rojí, that Cutural Leonesa want to bring Villa back to the club, but through Leeds United purchasing the exciting youngster. Talking of the deal, Pujela Fichajes say: “Leeds United will sign the player and then will loan him to Cultural Leonesa for a season in a three-way operation.”

Cultural y Deportivo Leonesa, to give them their full name, currently play in La Liga 2, finishing last season in a respectable 5th place in the league. What is interesting in this news is that Cultural Leonesa are owned by the Aspire Foundation, for whom Leeds United director Ivan Bravo is the general director.

Bravo is also on the board at Cultural, being a new appointment at the Spanish club. It is through this web of links that Leeds United are thought to be looking at this particular player hook-up.

Continuing by arrowing down into the nitty gritty, the Spanish publication then mentions some of the mechanics that could possibly lead to a deal being cut between Valladolid and Leeds United that would see playmaker Villa back at Cultural.

Pujela Fichajes say that Valladolid will not sanction the exit of Villa in this kind of “deal breaker” because the fee proposed by Leeds is too low. They say that “until now there is talk of only 300,000 euros” which is not considered high enough to make Real Valladolid sit nor enter into talks.

Playmaker Villa made 40 appearances in La Segunda B Grupo I for Cultural Leonesa last season, his seven goals helping fire the León-based side to La Liga 2 for next season.

Talk of this has spread wider than just Leeds United fans on Twitter and Facebook, and this can be seen in the conversation (below) between a Spanish Cultural Leonesa fan José and Samu Galicia, who works for one of the big Spanish sports daily publications Marca.

Galicia is right, should Leeds United and Real Valladolid agree a suitable fee for Toni Villa’s services, then it will be likely up to the player himself where he moves to. At the time of writing that destination looks likely to be Cultural via a player share backed by Leeds United.
