Norwich City set to sign former Liverpool midfielder

Norwich City are close to signing Adam Phillips on a free transfer according to a report from the Liverpool Echo.

The 19-year-old midfielder came through the Liverpool academy and for a while was seen as one of the club’s top prospects. Some in the institution even compared him to a young Steven Gerrard so high were the hopes for the player. However things didn’t work out for Phillips as some expected. Other players in the academy overtook him in the pecking order and that left Phillips far from the first team.

With him unlikely to break into the Liverpool first team, he was released at the end of his contract this summer. But even though he didn’t make the grade at Liverpool, he is still highly regarded and there is no reason that he can’t have his break at another team and show the coaching staff at Merseyside that they were wrong to release him. And it appears he might get the chance to do so as he is close to signing for Norwich.

The Norwich academy has produced many great players over the years but they are willing to bring in young players from other clubs to supplement their own guys. And after performing well in a pre-season camp in Germany for Norwich, he is set to be offered a deal to stay at the club permanently. While he wouldn’t be thrust straight into the first team, he would be given a chance to show his worth and could break through later on in the year.
