Leeds duo set to return just in time for League opener

Leeds United’s Gaetano Berardi and Mateusz Klich are set to return to full training on Thursday as Leeds United reach the ten-day mark before the Sky Bet Championship season begins, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The duo both missed the Whites’ final game while on a pre-season tour of Austria – against Spanish side Eibar on Sunday – with Berardi picking up a knock in the training leading up to the tie.

Klich has meanwhile been recuperating following a muscle injury sustained in the friendly at Guiseley prior to the tour of Austria. The Polish defender did not feature in any of the Yorkshire side’s friendlies in Austria, thus undergoing intense fitness training instead.

The Leeds squad have two days of rest since returning from their European trip however they return to full training at Thorp Arch on Tuesday.

It is expected that Berardi will also be able to return to training on Thursday, two days before their final pre-season friendly against Oxford United – managed by Pep Clotet, the Whites’ former assistant head coach.

Thomas Christiansen has added nine new players so far this summer and the Championship club are likely to make further signings this week. While Christiansen’s club are looking at bolstering defence, they are also keen to boost options upfront.

Recent reports have suggested that Leeds are looking at West Ham United’s striker Ashley Fletcher following the signings of Marko Arnautović and Javier Hernandez, however the YEP understands that the Whites have dropped their reported interest.

Leeds have also been linked with a move for Bristol City’s Aiden Flint and Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphich, but neither are thought to be transfer targets for Christiansen.
