Leeds United in for striker – new target identified – not English

It’s been a definite summer of signings at Elland Road and it appears that the trend is about to continue according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon in a conversation with Leeds United fans (below)on his protected Twitter feed.

Nine players, including high-profile purchases Ezgjan Alioski and Samu Saiz as well as the returning Hadi Sacko and Pontus Jansson, have signed up for the coming Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Talk around town is that more are coming in with United said to be focusing on addressing defensive concerns as a priority. The club also have Bosnian winger Boban Lazic, a former Ajax youth player, on trial at the moment.

With this transfer activity still bubbling away, there is much hope amongst Leeds United fans that the upcoming campaign could very well be one that builds on the successes and stability of the Garry Monk-led campaign from last time out.

The exchange, mentioned above, starts off with a very simple question that many Leeds fans are asking/wondering about – whether the Whites will be looking for support for leading scorer Chris Wood.

Nixon’s reply that, indeed, the club are looking to bring in someone to act as cover for Chris Wood is welcoming news for United fans, but led to other questions from Leeds fans – like the one below from Oliver.

Nixon answer the question quite unequivocally that the player in question has not played in England before, ruling out the link to former Barcelona B striker and Sheffield Wednesday loanee Rodrigo Ríos Lozano – or Rodri as he is better known.

Nixon’s final comment is that the soon-to-be-incoming player is a youngster, this continuing the recent trend of Leeds bringing in players to bulk out their Under-23 Development Academy squad. However, if Nixon’s sources are correct, this incoming player is looking at a cover role for the first team as something of a priority.

It seems that the happy transfer times are going to continue at Elland Road with the new season little under two weeks away.
