Mazuch, Hull set to sign Sparta Prague defender

Hull set to sign Sparta Prague defender

According to a Sky Sports News report, Hull City are closing in on a deal to bring Sparta Prague defender Ondrej Mazuch to the KCOM Stadium.

The 28-year-old centre back started his footballing career at Brno, in his homeland of the Czech Republic, who he has represented at an international level.

Following a successful youth spell and progression into the first team there, he was signed by Italian giants Fiorentina in 2007.

However Mazuch made just 2 appearances, and moved on to Belgian side Anderlecht.

He impressed during his time at ‘The Purple and Whites’ appearing 89 times, and even scored 5, earning himself a move to Dnipro.

He made 94 appearances for the Ukrainian side before moving to current club Sparta Prague in 2016.

However, since his move he has struggled to feature, and has subsequently been on trial with Hull during their pre season training camp in Portugal to try to earn a move. He also featured in their 1-0 win over Portuguese side Benfica on Saturday making the deal a real possibility.

‘The Tigers’ have already signed strikers Frazier Campbell and Liam Edwards on free transfers, as well as Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart, but will undoubtedly want to add to their ranks before the season begins, and Mazuch could be next.

With the competitiveness of the Championship at an all time high there is no doubt that signing a defender of Mazuch’s caliber will be exactly what Hull need, and with a few more additions we could well see Hull return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
