Wigan Athletic are looking to sign Arsenal’s Stephy Mavididi on loan and look likely to beat out Bolton Wanderers for his signature according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.
The 19-year-old striker is highly rated in the Arsenal academy and has already been capped by the England youth teams on several occasions, even playing in the 2015 U17 European Championships. However while a previous loan spell with Charlton Athletic ended prematurely due to an injury, the Gunners want Mavididi to head back out on loan so he can gain more first team experience.
And it appears that Wigan are the team he could be heading to as they are big fans of the player. The Latics suffered a huge disappointment as they got relegated back to Sky Bet League One after just a year in the Sky Bet Championship and are hoping that they can jump right back up into the second tier, just like the last time they were in this league. But they need extra quality and while Mavididi may be raw due to his lack of competitive action, he might just be the man they need.
And they are more likely to sign him than their Lancashire rivals Bolton, another team that have expressed their interest in signing Mavididi this summer. Not only are Wigan more keen on the signing, but Arsenal want to make sure their young star gets the starts he needs, something he is more likely to get at the DW Stadium than he would at newly promoted Bolton.
