Mulgrew, Sheffield Wednesday to make £1m move for Blackburn Rovers defender

Sheffield Wednesday to make £1m move for Blackburn Rovers defender

Sheffield Wednesday are set to make a £1m move for Blackburn Rovers’ Charlie Mulgrew according to a report from Page 59 of the July 23rd print edition of The Sun.

It’s been acknowledged for a while that Wednesday are in search of a new centre-back. They had depth issues last season which got so bad at times that Sam Hutchinson, who is now used mostly as a central midfielder, had to return to his old position and play at the back for parts of the season. This depth issue has only worse this summer after they released Vincent Sasso at the end of his contract.

But the Owls know that this is an issue and they are looking to sign new defenders to make sure they have the depth needed. And the player they are looking to make a move for is Mulgrew, someone who is currently contracted to Blackburn. The 29-year-old defender hasn’t had the best of times at the Lancashire club though as while he did well for them, he was unable to stop the club from being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship.

And while Mulgrew isn’t definitely going to leave Blackburn after their relegation, he is open to the idea so he can make a quick return to the Championship. And Wednesday not only like the fact he can play in defence but in midfield, making him a very useful player to have in case injuries blight other areas of the squad. That is why the club are making a move for him ahead of what may be more fashionable players to sign.
