Sheffield Wednesday

Potential Sheffield Wednesday starting XI for the opening day

As a new Sky Bet Championship season comes around there tends to be a whole host of clubs that can realistically challenge for promotion once the campaign is underway.

Sheffield Wednesday undoubtedly fall into this category. ‘The Owls’ have reached the top 6 in the past two seasons. They finished 6th in the 15/16 season, and made it all the way to the final, before losing 1-0 to Hull City, and finished 4th last season, but lost out to Huddersfield in the semi finals.

Coming so close the past two seasons will have been heartbreaking for the Hillsborough faithful, but will leave them extremely optimistic for the new season, knowing that they have what it takes to return to the top flight of English football.

Although transfers and rumours have been fairly quiet for Wednesday so far this off-season, I believe that the Yorkshire club will be up there come May, and here’s how I feel they could line up on the opening day away at Preston North End in a 4-4-2 formation.
