Nottingham Forest interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old midfielder was once hailed as one of the top prospects to come through the Aston Villa ever since he made his debut back in 2011 but injuries have got in the way and stopped him from becoming the integral part of the first team like many expected. And while some thought he might be one of the players who’d benefit from the Villain’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, he still ended up being frozen out of the first team.

And now Forest, who have liked the player for a long time, are looking to sign him on a permanent deal. He has had two loan spells with the club over the last few years and has been impressive in both of them. The East Midlands club have been keen to bring him back to the City Ground for a while and had tried to sign him during the January transfer window, though Villa were reluctant to sell then.

But with Aston Villa signing Glenn Whelan from Stoke City this summer and them looking like they might sign another central midfielder, the club might be more willing sell him this time around with Gardner less likely to make an impact on the first team. And Forest will be hoping that after having previous attempts foiled, they will finally be able to sign Gardner permanently and have him help them to avoid another relegation battle.
