Sean Longstaff has signed for Blackpool on loan until 6th January 2018. The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Kilmarnock.
Longstaff becomes Blackpool’s eleventh signing of the summer. He joins new additions Nick Anderton, Max Clayton, Peter Hartley, Curtis Tilt, Oliver Turton, Ben Williams, Jimmy Ryan, Christoffer Mafoumbi, Ryan Allsop and Callum Cooke at Bloomfield Road.
The midfielder is highly rated at Newcastle, and he was recently given a new deal at St James Park. Rafa Benitez will be keen to see if the player is ready for first-team football. Longstaff was linked with a move back to Kilmarnock however, nothing materialised.
Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer had this to say about the signing “Sean is another exciting addition to the squad. I’m delighted that Newcastle United have allowed him to further his development with us,”
“He’s someone who made a big impression with Kilmarnock up in Scotland last season. He highlighted his capabilities once again in a pre-season run-out at Darlington the other night.
Bowyer added, “He’s very good on the ball, and I’m sure he’ll contribute his fair share of goals and assists.”
Longstaff hasn’t yet made a first-team appearance for the Magpies. He went out on loan to Scottish side Kilmarnock in January. He scored three goals in 16 appearances for Killie.
Blackpool will be looking for back-to-back promotions after they won the League Two play-off final last season. Despite issues off the field, manager Gary Bowyer will be looking to win another promotion to draw attention back to the field.
