Aston Villa ready to offer contract to free agent defender

Aston Villa are preparing to offer a contract to Christopher Samba according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old defender is well known for England for playing for clubs such as Blackburn Rovers and QPR but over the last few players he has been playing for teams mostly in Eastern Europe. He would have a second spell at Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala before moving onto Dinamo Moscow. However he would become a free agent at the start of 2017 after being released by Greek team Panathinaikos in January 2017.

But since then it always seemed likely that he would become an Aston Villa player. While he had a short unsuccessful trial with Crystal Palace, he has spent most of his time since his release at Aston Villa in some form or another. In February he joined the club and started training with them and would for their developmental side in a match against Wolves. While he wasn’t offered a contract then, he was invited back to the club to train with them during their tour of Portugal.

And obviously Samba has impressed the Aston Villa coaching staff as the club are preparing a contract offer so he can become a permanent member of the squad. Even though he is coming towards the end of his career, Samba has a lot of experience that should make him a key player in the Villains squad. And while his wages are likely to be high, the fact he will be signed for free is a huge boon considering the price of defenders this summer.
