Latics boss hopes for Boro keeper return

Oldham Athletic manager John Sheridan is believed to be hoping to re-sign young Middlesbrough goalkeeper Connor Ripley on loan according to the Gazette Live.

The 24-year-old Middlesbrough born stopper spent the whole of last season on loan at Boundary Park and the player made 54 appearances in all competitions for The Latics.

Ripley is thought to now want to fight for his place at parent club Middlesbrough but with the player again set to play a back-up role on Teesside, Oldham Athletic boss Sheridan has not given up hope of re-signing the keeper on a further loan deal.

The former England Under-20 international goalkeeper is a product of Boro’s academy system and the player has gone on to make three first team appearances for the club. Ripley has struggled to get anywhere near the first team squad in recent seasons and the player has been sent out on loan to several clubs including Oxford United, Bristol City, Motherwell and Swedish club Ostersunds FK prior to his spell with Oldham Athletic.

Ripley’s impressive loan spell at Boundary Park last season saw the player win no less than three end of season awards. The keeper was named the Young Player of the Season while he was also crowned the Trust Player of the Year and Boundary Blues Player of the Season.
