Middlesbrough close to signing West Ham United goalkeeper

Middlesbrough are close to completing a deal to sign West Ham United’s Darren Randolph according to a report from HITC Sport.

Since being relegated, Middlesbrough have lost both of their main goalkeepers with Brad Guzan electing to return to the USA and sign for new MLS team Atlanta United while Victor Valdes is now a free agent after he was released at the end of the season. This means the Boro need a new shot stopper and they have tracked several names such as Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood and Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow.

However they missed out on those two goalkeepers and moved onto another target, Randolph from West Ham. He is the usual reserve goalkeeper at the London Stadium but he got plenty of chances to impress last season, getting 22 appearances. However he is very unlikely to match that if he stays with the Hammers this season as they signed Joe Hart from Manchester City in an eye-catching deal. This has the left the Republic of Ireland international frustrated as he wants first team football, especially as he wants the best chance of making the national squad should they reach the World Cup next summer.

And so now he is very close to wrapping up a deal to join Middlesbrough where he would get to be the number one. This move would also see him be part of a team that are chasing promotion after their disappointing relegation last season meaning that he could make a very quick return to the Premier League.
