Twitter Reacts: Nottingham Forest close in on Daryl Murphy signing

Daryl Murphy’s proposed £2 million move to Nottingham Forest is becoming more and more likely by the day.

The Reds are in desperate need of a new striker following the high-profile departure of former talisman Britt Assombalonga, and they have turned their attention to Newcastle’s experienced forward in an attempt to fill the void.

Murphy’s goal scoring record at Championship level is formidable, to say the least; he managed 27 goals with former club Ipswich Town in 2014/15, and despite being ruled out of much of last season through injury, still managed to net a number of crucial goals for the Magpies as they stormed to the league title.

The news was initially reported by established sports writer Lee Ryder on Wednesday, through his Twitter account.

Mixed feelings among Forest faithful

Some Reds supporters were happy with the news, citing experience and goalscoring ability as key factors that will prove crucial to their team’s successes this season.

However, other Twitter users were sceptical, with the high transfer fee for a 34-year-old being questioned by some supporters.

Magpies fans sorry to see him go

A number of Newcastle United supporters were unhappy with the news, and took the time to wish Murphy all the best for the future.

Murphy only joined the Tyneside club a year ago, but seems set to leave already following his side’s promotion back to the top flight.

Forest kick off the new season against newly promoted Millwall at the City Ground on August 4th.
