Sheffield Wednesday turn down £1m bid for star youngster

Sheffield Wednesday have rejected a £1m bid from Leicester City for George Hirst according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 18-year-old striker may have only made a few appearances for the Owls first team so far but there is already belief that he could end up being a star player for the club. He has been one of the developmental squad’s best players recently and helped the youth team claim two trophies last season before going on to help the England U20s to win the Toulon Tournament this summer, scoring four goals to become the competition’s joint top goalscorer.

This has led to some interest from the Premier League with Everton being the team that’s been tracking Hirst for a while. But it is Leicester City who have made an offer worth £1m for the young striker, the son of Wednesday legend David, as they look to make sure he was part of their youth system for the next few years. But the Owls are keen to make sure they don’t lose a player who could be a star for them and have rejected the bid.

With Wednesday planning to do everything they can to make sure that Hirst stays at Hillsborough, the young striker will be hoping to take the next step in his career this season. There has been some reports that he might be going out on loan with Chesterfield being interested though he might stay at the club and try to break into the first team.
