Bolton Wanderers set to sign Premier League goalkeeper on loan

Bolton Wanderers are set to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on loan for the coming season, according to Goal.

Blackman, 23, has recently signed a contract extension with Chelsea and will now be loaned out once again to continue his development in the Championship.

Joining the club at Under-13 level, Blackman has spent his entire career at Chelsea.  However, he is yet to make his senior debut for the club, having only played first-team football when out on loan.

The goalkeeper’s first loan move came in 2014 when he joined Championship side Middlesbrough.  Blackman made only one appearance during his time at the club, but it was an eventful one.  He saved a Raheem Sterling penalty and scored one of his own in a 13-14 shoot-out loss to Liverpool in the League Cup.

In 2016, Blackman was loaned to Swedish side Östersunds FK.  He made 12 appearances, keeping three clean sheets in just over two months with the club.

Last season, Blackman spent the entire season on loan at League Two club Wycombe Wanderers.  The goalkeeper had a fantastic season, keeping 14 clean sheets in 42 games as Wycombe missed out on a play-off place by only two points.

His good form from last season has attracted lots of interest and looks to have earned Blackman a move to the Championship with Bolton Wanderers.

With Ben Amos set to leave the Macron Stadium this summer, it looks as though Blackman will have to compete with Ben Alnwick to be the club’s starting goalkeeper.  If he can win the battle and get a few Championship games under his belt this season, Blackman could find himself playing for Chelsea’s first team.
