Blackburn Rovers displayed their Sky Bet League One title credentials with a thumping 8-0 victory over National League North outfit York City at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday evening.
Four goals in each half steered Tony Mowbray’s men to a thoroughly deserved 8-0 win against a York City side which had previously started their pre-season schedule in good form.
Summer signing Bradley Dack opened the scoring inside 10 minutes while Rovers soon doubled their lead with a deflected effort from Corey Evans. Ben Gladwin added a third with a low shot from the edge of the box with less than 30 minutes on the clock before notching a second before the break.
Anyone left thinking that Rovers might reduce the heat on their opponents in the second period were mistaken as Mowbray’s men continued to teach a harsh footballing lesson to The Minstermen. A tap-in from defender Paul Caddis opened the scoring in the second half while the same player curled in a spectacular sixth following some neat build-up play. Caddis’ impressive strike was so good it was applauded by the home crowd.
Danny Graham was the next name on the scoresheet with a close range header before Elliott Bennett ended the scoring 10 minutes before full-time with a stunning 30-yard effort.
Rovers’ huge winning margin was deserved on a night that everything clicked for Mowbray’s men and should they display that same quality of football going forward, there are surely some good times to be had at Ewood Park.
