Blackpool complete signing of Middlesbrough midfielder on loan

Blackpool have completed the signing of Middlesbrough’s Callum Cooke on loan as confirmed by the club website.

There’s a real fear that the Tangerines are going to lose star man Brad Potts this summer. The 23-year-old midfielder was a star man for them last year, being key as they got promoted from Sky Bet League Two via the play-offs last season. But he is attracting attention from Barnsley who have lost some of their own midfielders this summer and should he end up being sold, Blackpool need midfielders fit and ready to go into his position.

And they have got a player that could potentially fill Potts’ boots as Cooke has signed a deal that sees him move to Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season. He is coming off the back of a good loan spell with Crewe Alexandra last season where he made 17 appearances and is now ready to make a step up in divisions and help the Lancashire club establish themselves in League One.

After completing his move to Blackpool, Cooke said: “I can’t wait to get started. Thankfully I did well last season in League Two and I’ve made a step up now, so hopefully I can take it into League One this time,”

“I want to add some creativity to the midfield here and get a few goals and assists again. I hope I can show everybody, including the fans, what I can do.”

His new head coach Gary Bowyer added: “Callum is someone we monitored playing for Crewe last season and I’m pleased that Garry Monk and Middlesbrough have allowed him to continue his development with us,”

“He’s had plenty of international recognition at a young age and will add more creativity and goals to the team.”
