Nottingham Forest close in on deal for versatile defender

Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal for versatile Luton Town defender James Justin, according to The Mirror.

Forest have been linked with Justin, 19, for several weeks now and have had a bid rejected by Luton. After dismissing the offer, Luton chief executive Gary Sweet told the Luton News: “We have indeed received an offer and have duly rejected it. We consulted the board, the player and his agent in the process.”

However, Forest now look set to finally get their man as they close in on a deal with Luton.  It has been reported that the Championship side are willing to pay up to £1 million for Justin, so Luton could be about to get a healthy injection into their transfer budget.

Justin has spent his entire career with Luton Town, making his debut for the club in the 2015-16 season.  Last season, the defender make his first-team breakthrough, playing 39 games in all competitions and scoring one goal.

Earlier on in his career, Justin was primarily a central midfielder player.  He was first used at right-back in the Luton Under-18 team, having to fill in due to injuries.  Since then Justin has played most of his games at right-back, starting in the position 23 times last season.

He also played several games at right midfield, left-back and even appeared at centre-back, left midfield and defensive midfield.  Justin is no doubt a versatile player, a trait that could be very useful for any club.

Despite Luton not wanting to sell Justin this summer, they now look resigned to losing the defender.  Nottingham Forest lost their own key man yesterday when Britt Assombalonga signed for Middlesbrough.
