Tom Nichols has signed for the Gas for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old scored thirteen goals for Peterborough last season.
Nichols started his career with Exeter. While he was with the Grecians, he went out on loan to Dorchester Town, Hereford United and Bath City. His breakthrough came in the 2014-15 season where he notched 17 goals in 39 games for Exeter. He was linked with a move away from Devon, but he stayed for the 2015-16 season.
He scored ten goals in the first six months of the 2015-16 campaign. His form impressed Peterborough, and he left Exeter for Peterborough in January 2016. However, he only made seven appearances for the Posh that year, and he only managed one goal. But last season he was Peterborough’s top goal scorer with thirteen goals in 51 appearances.
Tom Nichols said this about the move ” I knew about the interest a few weeks ago. I just wanted to get the deal signed and over the line as soon as possible.”
He added, ” I know what the club is about and as soon as I heard that Rovers were interested, I knew it was a club that I would love to join.”
While Rovers gaffer Darrell Clarke said, ” I’m delighted to be signing a player, who in my opinion is a top class striker. We have been working hard to replace Matty Taylor, and I look forward to working with Tom, and I know that he will boost our strike force for next season.”
Nichols has become Rovers seventh signing of the summer. So far Darrel Clarke has signed Ghassan Abu Hassan, Rollin Menayese, Liam Sercombe, Sam Slocombe, Adam Smith, Marc Bola and now Tom Nichols. The Gas finished tenth in League One last season. Can they gain promotion this season to make it three promotions in four years?
