Birmingham City are set to make an audacious bid to sign Everton’s Aaron Lennon on loan from the Daily Mail.
The 30-year-old winger has been playing at the top end of the Premier League ever since he signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Leeds United back in 2015. He was a regular in the England squad from when he was shockingly called up to the England squad for the 2006 World Cup though he hasn’t been involved in the international scene since 2013.
However in recent years, Lennon has struggled. He has been at Everton since signing for them in 2015 but things haven’t gone as well as he would have hoped. He has been unable to hold onto a place in the Toffees first team ever since Ronald Koeman became their head coach and things became worse when he was admitted to hospital last season when he was detained under the Mental Health Act.
Lennon has since got back to training and reports indicate that he is looking sharp during Everton’s pre-season exploits. This has led to interest from Birmingham who are now looking to sign him on loan to give Lennon a great chance of rebuilding his career. He would be reuniting with Harry Redknapp, the man who gave him some of the best years of his career when they were both at Tottenham and playing under him could see him reignite the form that saw him become a regular in the England team. If Birmingham were able to pull this deal off, it could be one of the transfers of the summer as the Blues would get a top quality player for a year at least.
