Bolton Wanderers are close to signing Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong on loan according to a report from HITC Sport.
While the 20-year-old striker was hopeful of finally breaking into the Magpies first team this season, his dreams were dashed for another year when he was not named in the 27-man squad for their tour of the Republic of Ireland. Newcastle then made Armstrong available to sign on loan as they look for him to once again head out to another club and build on his previous good spells away from the club.
And after doing very well while on loan at Coventry City and Barnsley, he will now be heading for Bolton for the season. Armstrong will be coming into this season hot after being one of the players that helped England to win the U20s World Cup and Bolton will be hoping to make the most of it as they want to have the best chance of staying in the Sky Bet Championship after getting promoted last season.
Even though Bolton got promoted last season, none of their players did particularly well getting goals on a regular basis. They had joint top scorers with both Gary Madine and Josh Vela scoring ten goals and with there being doubts that they would translate that into the second tier, the club certainly needed a new striker to get them the goals they need to be competitive. Last year, Armstrong scored six goals in 37 appearances for Barnsley and will hope to improve that if he is made into a focal point at Bolton.
