Middlesbrough could miss out on winger as Newcastle bid £10 million

Middlesbrough could be set to miss out on the signing of Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo, according to The Sun.

Newly-appointed Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk had been interested in taking Ojo on loan for the season, but could now be set to miss out after Newcastle United bid £10 million.  It was recently reported that Middlesbrough had won the race for the winger, with Newcastle struggling to agree a deal.  However, the Magpies have now thrown the whole move into doubt with a £10 million bid.

It is believed that Middlesbrough and Newcastle were both interested in taking Ojo on loan, but Rafa Benitez has now come in with a permanent offer.  This means that the winger will now stay in England to discuss the move instead of travelling to Asia with the rest of the Liverpool squad.

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk previously had the upper hand in the race with Newcastle, being able to offer regular first-team football.  However, a cash offer changes things for Liverpool.  With Ojo unlikely to feature in the first-team much this season, it is understood that Klopp will take £10 million for the winger.

The winger impressed for England in the Under-20 World Cup last month which has led to a lot of interest in signing him on loan for the coming season.  As well as Middlesbrough and Newcastle, Premier League side Burnley have also been linked with the winger.

Monk will be hoping that he can lead Middlesbrough to promotion this season after a disappointing Premier League campaign, but he will have to reassess his targets if he misses out on Ojo.
