Bolton sign Newcastle United striker on loan

The Bolton Wanderers official website has confirmed that the club have signed Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on a half season loan deal until January.

At just 20 years old, Armstrong is surprisingly already known within the English game, and will be a welcome addition to fans of the Lancashire based club.

Armstrong came up through the youth system at St James’ Park, and made the step up to the senior side in 2014 aged just 17, however, he was loaned out to Coventry City in 2015 to help with his development, and to get him used to playing first team football week in week out.

He impressed immensely during his time wearing the sky blue of Coventry, scoring 20 goals in 40 appearances and earned himself a place in the PFA team of the year for League 1.

Following his success with Coventry, the youngster was in demand for the 2016/17 season, and opted to join Barnsley on an initial six-month deal, which was extended for the duration of the season. He scored 6 goals in 34 appearances before returning to his parent club at the end of the season.

However,  Bolton Wanderers have today confirmed the signing of the youngster, as they look to secure Sky Bet Championship status this season following their promotion from League 1 last time out.

There is no doubt that once again competition in the Championship will be as rife as ever, and a good or bad spell could mean the difference between staying in the league or facing relegation for Bolton come August.

However, a marquee signing like Armstrong is a real show of intent by ‘The Trotters’ and he will no doubt play a huge part in their success this season.
