On police advice, today’s opening friendly of the Austria mini-tour was cancelled due to concerns over possible hooliganism – the news being relayed to disappointed fans via the club website on Friday.
In the website article, Leeds United said plainly that the decision was out of their hands saying that: “The only information the club has received on the cancellation is that the decision was made by the local authority this [Friday] morning.”
This left Leeds United facing a two-game tour, with matches to come versus German side Borussia Monchengladbach and Spanish side Eibar. However, in news recently coming through, Leeds have arranged a new friendly to replace the cancelled one.
This new game will be against Turkish side Bursaspor, a team who play in the top-tier of Turkish football. Whilst yet to be confirmed officially by Leeds United, it has been mentioned on the Bursaspor website in a brief article.
The title of the article makes it very clear, when translated into English of course, saying that: “Bursaspor will play their first preparation match [against]Leeds United.” The body of the article says that the Turkish side will train in the morning and play Leeds in the evening.
The article goes on to say that the game will be broadcast live on Bursaspor’s YouTube channel, which can be found here.
The hastily arranged game will allow Leeds United fans that first chance of seeing their recent signings such as Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski and Caleb Ekuban in action for the first time against a side that finished in 15th place in the Turkish Süper Liga.
